The yellow fin tuna’s back is
gray blue, its belly is silvery with
yellow fins. It is the most used tuna
in the canning industry because of its
tasty flesh. This type of tuna is caught
during the whole year in equatorial
and tropical waters.
Like all tuna fishes, the yellow fin
tuna has a stocky and muscular body
and a hydrodynamic figure. It differs
from other tuna fishes by the yellow
edge of its second dorsal and anal fins.
Moreover, these two fins are very long.
The dorsal and ventral pinnules are
also yellow, the belly and side are
bright. Eyes are large and the narrow
caudal fin bears a perfectly homocercal
fin.

The tuna is a pelagic
fish living in small-size shoals which
can be met from the surface to the depth
( up to 250 metres). It is active days
and nights and lives in shoals including
fishes having the same size. Sometimes,
other tuna species or even dolphins catch
up with these shoals. Large-size specimens
live alone. The Yellow fin tuna is a species
which carries out variable range migrations.

The yellow fin tuna
is a fish- eater which lives on various
medium-size pelagic species. Occasionally,
it captures cephalopoda or crustaceans
